Article about DOD’s Cybersecurity Rules Wins Recognition for Distinguished Legal Writing

Partners David Robbins, Tony Barkow, David Bitkower, and Aaron Cooper have been honored by Law360 and The Burton Awards for Distinguished Writing for their article “Don’t Panic: DOJ Civil Cyber Fraud Initiative and Defense Contractors,” which The Government Contractor published last year.

Their article discusses the Department of Defense’s (DOD) cybersecurity rules, the compliance challenges facing contactors, and how those compliance challenge present obstacles to the Department of Justice’s efforts to bring False Claims Act cases.

With only 25 winners chosen from nominations submitted by the 1,000 largest law firms in the United States, The Burton Awards recognize authors who “are truly exemplary, technically skilled and effective writers.” The awards will be presented on June 12 at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC, in association with the Library of Congress, lead sponsor Law360, and co-sponsor the American Bar Association.

David Robbins is a Co-Chair of the firm’s Government Contracts and Grants Practice. David formerly led the US Air Force’s Global Procurement Fraud Remedies Office, where he served as an Acting Suspending and Debarring Official and Deputy General Counsel.

Tony Barkow is a Co-Chair of the firm’s Investigations, Compliance, and Defense Practice. He previously served as a federal prosecutor in the states attorney’s offices for the Southern District of New York and for the District of Columbia and at the US Department of Justice.

David Bitkower also serves as a Co-Chair of the firm’s Investigations, Compliance, and Defense Practice. He is a former Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division of the US Department of Justice.

Aaron Cooper serves as a Co-Chair of the firm’s Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice. He is a former cybercrime prosecutor for the Department of Justice who served as Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division and as a Special Assistant US Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia.
