Serious Fraud Office Strategy 2024-2029, LexisNexis Corporate Crime
In their recent article for LexisNexis Corporate Crime, London Investigations, Compliance, and Defense Partner Lucy Blake and Associate André Nwadikwa analyse the UK Serious Fraud Office’s (SFO) newly introduced strategy for 2024-2029 – the first under its new director, Nick Ephgrave.
The strategy sets out the SFO’s goal to be seen as the leading force in tackling serious fraud, bribery, and corruption by achieving four main goals: enhancing workforce skills, embracing technology, improving crime-fighting methods, and actively engaging in the global and domestic justice system. To achieve these, the SFO plans to invest in staff development, leverage technological advancements, strengthen intelligence-led operations, explore innovative alternatives to formal prosecution, and enhance international cooperation.
Despite criticism for lacking detailed plans, the SFO has already initiated signs of proactive action under its new director with several investigations underway.
Lucy has exceptionally broad experience in helping clients investigate all manner of wrongdoing, including bribery, toxic cultures, human rights, and ESG issues. Clients trust her judgment and perspective in “quarterbacking” cross-border matters – synthesising local and/or specialist legal advice to bring clarity on sequencing parallel proceedings and investigations by competing international regulators.
A former prosecutor, André leverages his experience in bringing cross-border, large-scale cases to trial in advising clients facing the full spectrum of government enforcement investigations in the United Kingdom, United States, and beyond.
