Jenner & Block Japan Newsletter
Welcome to the February 2023 edition of the Jenner & Block Japan Newsletter, a newsletter containing updates about legal developments in the United States that may be noteworthy to our clients and other leaders in the Japanese legal and business communities.
Our report today spans many different topics and begins with the recent proposal from the FTC to ban non-compete obligations. Although the proposal will likely face strong legal challenges, companies should prepare for the proposed requirement. We cover the latest updates and policy changes issued by several government agencies including the Department of Justice’s charging policies and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s proposed rule to create a public registry of terms. We look at the latest developments in antitrust law with the Congressional increase in merger filing fees. We have news from SCOTUS and a decision out of Delaware for duties of officers, as well as a review of business and human rights issues on the rise in 2023, and insights on IBM’s 50 percent decline in patents issued last year. Finally, we are pleased to announce an updated Anticorruption Enforcement Year in Review for 2022 is now available for your benefit. It is a comprehensive analysis of significant developments in anticorruption laws and practices worldwide.
We hope that you find the information in the Jenner & Block Report of interest, and we thank you for taking the time to review our publication.
