The New ESG Landscape: What Global Companies Need to Know
Event
Wednesday, January 29, 2025 | 10:30 am – 11:30 am PT, 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm CT, 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm ET, 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm GMT
On Wednesday, January 29, we will be hosting a webinar discussing important developments around Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) risk and compliance. Please register below, and share this invitation with any relevant counsel or business leaders in your organization.
The US election result has thrown into sharp relief the challenge facing global companies around ESG obligations, especially regarding human rights, climate, and supply chains. Organizations with international operations or supply chains are now confronted by a real (and increasing) divergence between how regulators, legislators, and enforcers are viewing ESG in the United States and Europe, with the EU imposing new hard law requirements that will carry the risk of significant monetary penalties (<5% of global turnover), whereas in the United States, ESG remains an intensely contentious political and reputational issue.
In this webinar, our cross-office multidisciplinary team will discuss a) what the new EU legislation means for international companies; b) the current picture in the United States regarding ESG, including the direction of travel under a new Trump administration; and c) how global organizations can go about building a comprehensive compliance strategy that balances the different risks.
Presenters are drawn from across the firm, bringing diverse experience to the table:
- Lucy Blake, Partner and Co-Chair of our Human Rights and Global Strategy Practice,
London Office - Ambassador Keith Harper, former US Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva and Co-Chair of our Human Rights and Global Strategy Practice, Washington, DC Office
- Ann O’Leary, Co-Chair of our Government Controversies Practice and former Chief of Staff to the Governor of California Gavin Newsom, San Francisco Office
- Jennifer Lee, former Assistant Director in the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) Division of Enforcement, San Francisco Office
- Caroline Cease, Partner in our Government Controversies Practice, Washington, DC Office
- Stephanie Sebor, Partner in our Environmental and Workplace Health and Safety Practice, Chicago Office
