Christine Braamskamp serves as Managing Partner in the London office and co-leads the firm’s Investigations, Compliance, and Defense team, as well as the firm’s Culture Risk and Sensitive Investigations team. A former barrister, Christine leads highly complex criminal, reputational, and regulatory matters.

Christine’s practice spans a range of industries and areas. Formerly called to the Bar in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, she brings her diverse and international civil and common law experience to a range of compliance, investigation, and white-collar defense matters. Christine has a particular focus on:

  • Conducting complex internal investigations across a range of alleged misconduct (including, bribery, corruption, financial crimes, and non-financial misconduct);
  • Developing and improving anti-bribery and corruption or ESG compliance programs;
  • Conducting comprehensive culture reviews (including global DEI audits) to identify governance and legal risks, often helping organizations through conflict of laws issues;
  • Coordinating  interactions with criminal and regulatory authorities worldwide and, drawing on extensive courtroom experience, overseeing parallel civil litigation and criminal investigations;
  • Advising senior executives subject to criminal, regulatory, or internal investigations; and
  • Negotiating settlements with regulators and other authorities, including in complex NCA cases with a cross-border or multi-jurisdictional element (for example, in respect of AFOs or UWOs).

Christine also maintains an active pro bono practice. She regularly acts pro bono for individuals and frequently advises on matters with organizations such as Legal Action Worldwide, Lawyers Without Borders, and various charities, often with a focus on human-rights related issues.

Christine co-chairs the firm’s Positive Workplace Committee and is an elected member of Jenner & Block’s governing committee.

  • Advised a global automation company on investigations conducted by the SFO relating to allegations of bribery and corruption.
  • Advised global engineering company and conducted internal investigation following whistle-blower allegations of bribery.
  • Advised global engineering company and conducted internal investigation following whistle-blower allegation that a convicted sex-offender had been hired into the team.
  • Advised a global agricultural company on issues arising from a blackmail scheme.
  • Advised global construction company on compliance failings and allegations of toxic workplace culture.
  • Advised global construction company following workplace fatalities.
  • Advised trust services provider on sanctions compliance and terrorist financing issues.
  • Advised litigation funder on critical business integrity issues.
  • Advised companies in relation to their interactions with SFO, DOJ, FCA, SEC, Health and Safety Executive, FIOD (NL), SOIK (DK), OAG (CH), and other regulators across UK, US and Europe.

Individuals:

  • Advised various High Net Worth Individuals on proceedings brought by the National Crime Agency (Account Freezing Orders, Unexplained Wealth orders, Disclosure Orders).
  • Advised CEO in connection with an investigation by a Regulator in relation to allegations of sexual misconduct and inappropriate workplace culture.
  • Advised CEO of a higher educational institution in connection with an internal investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct and presiding over a culture enabling sexual assault.
  • Advised former foreign government official against a campaign of persecution brought by state-owned entities in civil courts in the UK and around the world.
  • Advised Swiss-based oil trader on investigations by U.S. Department of Justice and OFAC on allegations of potential sanctions violations.
  • Advised designated individual on removal of SDN list.
  • Advised General Counsel of regulated business on ethical and reporting obligations following allegations of bribery and corruption.
  • Advised senior trader in fact find and subsequent exit from regulated business.
  • Advised individuals in matters involving Metropolitan Police, SFO, NCA, FCA, Health and Safety Executive, Lloyd's of London and other police forces.
