WASHINGTON – JANUARY 25, 2021– Jenner & Block is pleased to announce that Partner Emily Loeb has been appointed to the US Department of Justice as Associate Deputy Attorney General.
“Emily Loeb is a phenomenal lawyer with deep experience at the Justice Department,” said Tom Perrelli, chair of the firm who also co-chaired the Government Controversies and Public Policy Litigation Practice with Ms. Loeb. “We will miss her at Jenner but are thrilled for her new role and believe there is no one better suited to helping restore and continue the Department’s mission.”
Prior to joining the firm in 2016, Ms. Loeb served for more than six years in senior positions in the Executive Branch. Most recently, she served as an Associate Counsel in the Office of the White House Counsel, where she advised senior White House and Executive Branch Agency officials on high priority litigation and congressional and other investigations, managing risk on a variety of policy initiatives. Before joining the Office of the White House Counsel, Ms. Loeb served in several roles at the DOJ, including Senior Counselor and Acting Chief of Staff of the Civil Rights Division. During her time in the Civil Rights Division, Ms. Loeb directed the Division's response to congressional oversight and inspector general investigations and oversaw the Division’s legislative and policy initiatives.
In 2012, Ms. Loeb served as a special assistant US attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, where she prosecuted federal drug and wire fraud cases. From 2009 to 2010, Ms. Loeb was legislative and policy counsel in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs, where she helped enact the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 and student loan reform in the Healthcare and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010.
During her time at the firm, Ms. Loeb earned significant recognition for her work. The National Law Journal profiled Ms. Loeb as one of Washington, DC’s next generation of crisis management lawyers or “DC fixers.” The publication also named Ms. Loeb a DC "Rising Star"—one of 40 lawyers selected who have "excelled on some of the biggest stages”—and a Government Relations Trailblazer. She also earned recognition as one of the "Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40" from the National LGBT Bar Association.
