Brandon R. Thompson, Former FCC Enforcement Bureau Lawyer and Communications Transactions Counsel, Joins Jenner & Block's Communications, Internet, and Technology Practice in Washington, DC

WASHINGTON, DC – June 17, 2026: Jenner & Block is pleased to announce that Brandon R. Thompson has joined as a Special Counsel in its Washington, DC office as part of the firm’s Communications, Internet, and Technology (CIT) Practice. Brandon's background in corporate transactions, combined with his Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulatory experience, strengthens the firm's ability to advise clients navigating the intersection of communications law and commercial transactions.

Brandon joins Jenner from an AmLaw 100 firm where he built a robust practice focused on FCC regulatory compliance and technology dealmaking, including radio and satellite licensing, equipment authorization, and Secure Networks Act matters. Alongside a broad regulatory foundation, Brandon’s business-focused practice includes representing companies as they acquire broadband services, negotiate commercial agreements with communications and cloud service providers, and satisfy FCC privacy and consumer protection requirements. He has secured significant federal telecommunications grants for clients, including a National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) award under the CHIPS and Science Act to advance 5G and Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) development.

"Brandon brings a rare combination of FCC regulatory fluency and sophisticated transactional experience that strengthens our CIT Practice at a pivotal moment for the communications industry,” said Co-Managing Partners Ishan Bhabha and Randy Mehrberg. “His ability to move seamlessly between regulatory compliance, federal grant work, and complex commercial transactions makes him an immediate asset to clients navigating a rapidly evolving landscape.”

Earlier in his career, Brandon served as an attorney advisor in the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau through its Attorney Honors Program, where he led investigations enforcing the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and Truth in Caller ID Act in coordination with state attorneys general and the Department of Justice.

“Brandon's background is exactly what our CIT and Corporate clients are asking for right now,” said CIT Co-Chair Trey Hanbury. “He understands both how the FCC operates and how to structure the transactions that depend on that regulatory foundation. That combination of regulatory depth paired with transactional sophistication gives our clients a real advantage when the two worlds collide,” added CIT Co-Chair Sam Feder.

“Jenner & Block has a reputation for tackling the most difficult problems in communications law,” said Brandon. “I’m eager to bring my FCC background and transactional experience to a diverse team of litigators, regulatory compliance lawyers, and dealmakers, working on industry-leading matters that shape the future of communications.”

Brandon holds a JD from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Southern California Interdisciplinary Law Journal, and a BA in Government and History from Cornell University.
