“Calls to Action and Door Openings: If It Relates to NYS Government Officials – You May Be Lobbying,” Association of Corporate Counsel – New York City Chapter CLE
Event
December 3, 2020
On December 3, Partners Jeremy M. Creelan and Dawn L. Smalls and Special Counsel Seth H. Agata will present a CLE webinar hosted by the Association of Corporate Counsel – New York City chapter. Through a series of hypotheticals and examples, the panelists will explore New York State’s lobbying law and regulations as well as the ethical dilemmas New York lawyers face when lobbying or employing lobbyists. The program will also cover when lawyers cross the line into lobbying and when they need to start reporting their lobbying activity. The webinar begins at 12 pm ET and is open to ACC-NY members. Mr. Creelan is a highly experienced litigator who re-joined Jenner & Block as a partner in 2014 after serving for three years in the administration of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, first as special counsel for Public Integrity and Ethics Reform and then as special counsel to the Governor. Ms. Smalls is an accomplished leader with experience in law, politics, government, and philanthropy. Her clients benefit from her strategic advice and legal counsel on complex legal, policy, and regulatory matters. Her service in two presidential administrations gives her unique insight into government and politics, while her more recent role as a commissioner of the New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics (JCOPE) places her at the forefront of lobbying and ethics law. Mr. Agata is the former executive director of JCOPE. He is one of the nation’s leading professionals on lobbying laws and regulations and the ethics laws governing public official conduct. In his role as executive director, he was responsible for administering lobbying and public ethics laws in New York State. Under his direction, JCOPE launched the first comprehensive lobbying regulations in New York State history and revamped post-employment “revolving door” restrictions.
