The American Lawyer ranked Jenner & Block as the top firm for pro bono work in the United States on its 2024 Pro Bono Scorecard. The firm ranked second for international pro bono service.
The firm’s US-based lawyers averaged 167.7 pro bono hours in 2023, up from 150.1 hours the previous year, and with 109.2% of lawyers completing at least 20 pro bono hours.
Lawyers from the firm’s London office dedicated 85.2 pro bono hours on average in 2023, and 104.6% of the office worked 20 hours or more on pro bono matters.
"Our pro bono work is powerful, life-changing, and reflects our shared values," said Co-Managing Partners Katya Jestin and Randy Mehrberg. "We are incredibly proud of the firm's continued commitment to pro bono and public service, which has earned us the top spot on The American Lawyer's Pro Bono Scorecard a total of 12 times."
Jenner & Block’s commitment to exceeding the market standard of 20 pro bono hours per-lawyer earned the firm the number-two spot on the publication’s Breadth of Pro Bono Commitment list for the third year in a row. In 2023, nearly every lawyer at the firm devoted at least 50 hours to pro bono work.
“People come to Jenner because they are committed to community service and pro bono,” said Partner Debbie Berman, a Co-Chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee, when discussing the firm’s pro bono commitment with the publication. “We continue to see more and different challenges. We realize we have all of these resources at this firm that can be brought to bear on important societal issues.”
In 2023 alone, Jenner lawyers advocated for free and fair elections, challenged laws restricting rights for LGBTQ+ communities, navigated complex asylum and immigration law to help clients in the next chapter of their lives, and much more.
