Arjun Ramamurti represents clients in high-stakes matters presenting complex questions of constitutional, statutory, and administrative law. He regularly practices before the US Supreme Court, the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit, and other federal courts of appeals, with particular experience at the intersection of administrative law and energy and telecommunications policy. Arjun also counsels clients confronting shifting regulatory frameworks, designing creative litigation strategies to protect their interests. He is committed to expanding access to justice, and maintains an active pro bono practice focused on voting rights and immigration.
Before entering private practice, Arjun served as Counsel and Special Assistant to the Attorney General at the US Department of Justice, where he advised the Attorney General and Department leadership on antitrust, environmental, and other legal and public policy matters. He previously clerked for Justice Stephen G. Breyer of the US Supreme Court and for then-Chief Judge Merrick B. Garland and Judge Cornelia T.L. Pillard of the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit. By appointment, he serves on the DC Circuit’s Advisory Committee on Procedures.
Arjun received his JD from Yale Law School, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Yale Law Journal.

- Successfully briefed and argued a First Circuit case on behalf of public interest organizations concerning the proper venue for challenges to the FCC’s rate caps for incarcerated people’s communications services.
- Successfully petitioned for certiorari and briefed a US Supreme Court merits case regarding the exhaustion of state administrative remedies in § 1983 suits in state court./li>
- Successfully briefed a US Supreme Court merits case regarding a tribe’s ability to recover costs under the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act.
- Successfully briefed a Third Circuit case regarding the preemption of a state utility commission’s siting authority when in conflict with federally approved regional transmission planning processes.
