Jenner & Block Secures Victories Protecting Research Funding at Higher Education Institutions
In major back-to-back victories for research in quantum computing, AI, cybersecurity, semiconductors, and other technologies vital to national security and competitiveness, Jenner & Block secured critical court orders halting federal funding cuts at US universities.
Jenner & Block is pleased to announce its Law Firm and Professional Services Defense Practice achieved a Nationwide Band 1 ranking in the 2024 edition of Chambers USA. This marks the first year that Chambers has included a Nationwide Law Firm Defense category among its rankings.

Jenner & Block Team Achieves Favorable Settlement in Civil Rights Case
Associates Wesley M. Griffith, Elizabeth Avunjian, and Effiong K. Dampha led a team that obtained a favorable settlement on the eve of trial in a Section 1983 civil rights case. The civil rights action arose from our client reporting several prison guards for misconduct. Our client alleged that in retaliation for his report, the guards took him to an isolated area of the prison that was closed for construction and beat him until he lost consciousness.

Jenner & Block Partner Kirsten Spira shared her insight on the use of experts in legal malpractice litigation in a panel presentation titled “Use of Experts in Legal Malpractice Matters – Maximizing the Impact of Your Expert." Speaking at the Fall 2022 National Legal Malpractice Conference sponsored by the ABA’s Standing Committee on Lawyers’ Professional Liability, she and other panelists discussed the subject by dividing the issues presented into innings of a baseball game. On January 20, 2020, Jenner & Block Partner Kirsten Hicks Spira presented at a CLE program sponsored by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers’ Southern California Chapter. Titled “Telling the Story Ethically,” Ms. Spira’s session highlighted Rules of Professional Conduct 3.3 and 4.1 and focused on the ethical challenges that trial lawyers encounter.
