Los Angeles Partner Carolyn Small will be honored with The Human Trafficking Legal Center’s Advocate of the Year Award on October 8 in recognition of her commitment to advocacy in support of trafficking survivors’ rights.
Since 2024, Carolyn has been leading Jenner & Block's pro bono team on a complex labor trafficking case referred by the Human Trafficking Legal Center. Carolyn and the team identified multiple alternative remedies for the survivor, including California State Crime Victim Fund compensation, debt relief, tax relief, and advocacy to cancel fraudulent loans. Her trauma-informed approach demonstrated creativity and flexibility, drawing on her expertise in fraud prosecution, financial crimes, money laundering, and tax evasion. The team’s compassionate and skilled representation exemplified ideal advocacy for this sensitive matter.
The pro bono team included Associates Carolyn Brown, Natasha Brown Harris, Laura Koeller, Michelle Li, Tal Ratner Solovey, and Tayisiya Tkachuk, and Paralegal Luba Yartseva.
