Jenner & Block achieved a comprehensive summary judgment victory for the Association of American Universities and leading research institutions when the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts struck down the Department of Defense's controversial "Rate Cap Policy" that threatened approximately $9 billion in annual federal research funding to universities nationwide.

In major back-to-back victories for research in quantum computing, AI, cybersecurity, semiconductors, and other technologies vital to national security and competitiveness, Jenner & Block secured critical court orders halting federal funding cuts at US universities. 

Today, Jenner & Block, on behalf of St. Luke’s Health System and in collaboration with Stoel Rives, filed a lawsuit with the US District Court for the District of Idaho to resolve the conflict between Idaho’s state abortion law and the federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA).

In a unanimous decision, the US Supreme Court today ruled in favor of our client, Yonas Fikre.

On February 20, 2024, the Supreme Court denied certiorari in a closely watched case, Coalition for TJ v. Fairfax County School Board, challenging the admissions policies of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, a prestigious magnet school in Virginia. The challenged policies have the intent and effect of capturing diversity but are formally race-neutral. Mr. Fikre is a law-abiding US citizen who was stranded overseas for four years after the FBI placed him on the No Fly List. Mr. Fikre sued, alleging that his placement on the No Fly List violated his constitutional rights to due process. After four years of litigation, the FBI removed Fikre from the No Fly List without explanation and promised not to put him on it again “based on the currently available information.”  As a result, the government argued that his lawsuit was moot.  The Ninth Circu

Jenner & Block’s Election Law and Redistricting Practice secured two major victories in the highest courts of New York and Wisconsin this month. In both matters, judges ordered that new electoral maps be drawn in time for the 2024 elections.
