Partner Ian Gershengorn Named 2025 DC Attorney of the Year by The National Law Journal

Partner Ian Gershengorn has been named The National Law Journal’s 2025 DC Attorney of the Year. The honor recognizes a Washington, DC-based attorney who has made significant contributions to the profession and in the law beyond client service within the past year.

As Co-Chair of Jenner & Block’s Appellate and Supreme Court Practice, Ian's work this past year demonstrates strong versatility and impact. In the Ninth Circuit, he argued both a high-profile antitrust dispute on behalf of a Las Vegas newspaper and a right-of-publicity case involving digital yearbook databases. He also argued a takings claim on behalf of citizens whose homes flooded in Hurricane Harvey due to a government dam, and he represented tribal interests in a case raising a constitutional challenge to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. He represented a bank in a challenge to Federal Reserve restrictions on serving crypto-currency clients, and he has represented colleges and universities on a range of litigation matters.

Beyond client service, Ian mentors the next generation of lawyers at Jenner and teaches a seminar on the Roberts Court at Harvard Law School. The course offers students perspective from someone who has argued before the Court 17 times and, while at the government, supervised briefing in landmark cases involving the Affordable Care Act, immigration reform, same-sex marriage, and more.
