Cannabis Practice Group of the Year: Jenner & Block

Law360 named Jenner & Block among its Cannabis Practice Groups of the Year, recognizing the group’s work in several of the most significant matters of 2021. Co-Chair Martin C. Glass discusses the groups strengths in a profile announcing the award.

“We represent some of the best names in the industry both in the United States and in Canada,” he said. “We are a law firm that is full-service that does a full suite of corporate and litigation work for these companies, and we also do a lot of work for private equity funds.”

The profile also highlights a significant victory for cannabis chain Curaleaf whose shareholders claimed it had improperly marketed CBD products resulting in a drop in stock prices. Jenner & Block successfully argued that the company had properly disclosed the products’ legality, resulting in a first-of-its-kind securities fraud class action against a consumer cannabis company.

Co-Chair Stephen L. Ascher led the matter and commented in the profile that “it was a good win for the industry in terms of affirming that investors understand that this is federally illegal, there is a risk of adverse federal action, there is a risk of federal regulation, and the multistate operators have disclosed that adequately.”

This is the second consecutive year that Jenner & Block’s Cannabis group has earned “Practice Group of the Year.”
