Silicon Valley’s IP Trailblazer Establishes Firm’s Patent Presence in San Francisco

Ed Anderson Brings Renowned Experience as a Litigator before the US International Trade Commission

April 8, 2024 – San Francisco – Jenner & Block is pleased to announce that Ed Anderson, one of the first-generation intellectual property trial lawyers in Silicon Valley, has joined our San Francisco office as of counsel. Ed will leverage his four decades of experience representing clients at courts nationwide and, in particular, before the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

Ed has litigated historic IP cases in Silicon Valley and before the ITC. Regarded as a leading authority on the ITC, he has represented clients in over a dozen investigations through or shortly before trial, including successfully trying two ITC cases during a single summer.

“Our thriving San Francisco office is primed for the addition of a pioneer in the Silicon Valley legal community,“ said Co-Managing Partners Katya Jestin and Randy Mehrberg. “Ed’s career has been defined by his work developing IP practices and firms. Years ago, a California legal publication documented his successful efforts building a fast-growing San Jose firm. He was described then as self-effacing and dogged—qualities that will benefit today’s clients who seek his counsel on protecting their intellectual property.“

Ed has founded and led offices and practice groups of Am Law 100 firms. He served as the managing partner and chairman of Skjerven Morrill MacPherson, then the largest IP firm in Silicon Valley and one of the country’s largest IP boutique law firms.

His national and international clients are in the computer, consumer electronics, medical device, semiconductor, software, telecommunications, and pharmaceutical industries, and he advises major and emerging technology companies on managing their intellectual property portfolios.

“We are excited to bolster our nationwide patent team with Ed’s extensive experience. His unique, singular insight into practicing at the ITC, and his experience as lead IP trial counsel at federal courts, enhances capabilities that we can offer our clients,“ said Partners Amr Aly and Reggie Hill, who co-chair the Patent Litigation and Counseling Practice.

“I look forward to helping advance Jenner’s patent practice, especially in Silicon Valley, where I have established roots and contributed to the health and progress of the legal community,“ said Ed.

Ed’s commitment to pro bono and community service aligns with Jenner’s values. As a young lawyer, he undertook numerous pro bono matters for the ACLU and the Silicon Valley Law Foundation, the largest provider of pro bono legal services in the region. He served on the organization’s board for more than 20 years. In the community, Ed has served on the boards of several educational and neighborhood institutions.

Ed earned his JD and his AB from Stanford Law School.
