Jenner & Block is pleased to announce that Peter Davis has joined as a Partner in its Washington, DC office, strengthening the firm's nationally recognized Appellate and Supreme Court Practice. A former Supreme Court clerk and first-chair appellate advocate, Peter has successfully argued complex constitutional and regulatory cases on behalf of major technology and entertainment companies.
"Peter's arrival reflects our continued investment in building the nation's premier appellate practice that fiercely advocates for our clients," said Co-Managing Partners Ishan Bhabha and Randy Mehrberg. "His experience representing leading technology and entertainment companies in high-stakes constitutional and regulatory matters aligns with our focus on zealously serving clients at the forefront of legal and policy developments. We're excited to welcome Peter to the firm and look forward to the impact he'll make for our clients."
Peter represents a full spectrum of clients in high-stakes appellate and district court litigation across the country. Known for his strategic litigation approach and deep knowledge of constitutional law, Peter comes to Jenner & Block from an AmLaw 25 firm, where he represented clients in their most important matters, including multiple appeals implicating more than $1 billion. Peter has spearheaded over a dozen appeals for a major entertainment company and secured significant victories in high-stakes matters for major technology and entertainment companies. His practice spans antitrust, administrative law, First Amendment, technology, and complex regulatory challenges—areas where businesses increasingly face government scrutiny and constitutional questions.
"Peter represents the caliber of fearless appellate advocate that defines our practice," said Ian Heath Gershengorn, Co-Chair of Jenner & Block's Appellate & Supreme Court Practice. "His Supreme Court pedigree, first-chair argument experience, and proven track record with sophisticated clients strengthens our ability to handle the most consequential matters. Peter's understanding of constitutional law and regulatory challenges is particularly valuable as our clients navigate an increasingly complex legal landscape."
Peter routinely advises clients on complex regulatory challenges with a view towards bringing or anticipating future litigation. His recent victories include successfully arguing a California Court of Appeal case for a major entertainment company and prevailing before the Indiana Court of Appeals on behalf of a joint defense group in litigation concerning local government efforts to tax streaming services. He has experience obtaining or defeating efforts to obtain interlocutory appellate review in state and federal court, has briefed Supreme Court certiorari and merits cases, and second-chaired a Supreme Court argument. Peter maintains an active amicus practice before the US Supreme Court on issues of concern to the business community.
Peter previously clerked for Justice Elena Kagan in the US Supreme Court, Judge James Boasberg in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, and Judge Sri Srinivasan in the US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. This unique judicial perspective, combined with his Supreme Court briefing and argument experience, positions him to provide clients with unique strategic counsel informed by the highest levels of the federal judiciary.
"I’m thrilled to join the partnership at Jenner & Block and to work with an exceptionally talented team tackling the most difficult challenges for our clients,” said Peter. "This appellate group fearlessly takes on complex constitutional and regulatory matters at the highest levels, and I'm excited to contribute to cases that shape the legal landscape for businesses and institutions."
Peter received his JD from Stanford Law School.
