Jenner & Block has elevated six lawyers to Special Counsel, promoting associates from the firm’s Chicago, London, and Washington, DC offices.

The District of Columbia Courts, in partnership with the DC Access to Justice Commission and the DC Bar Pro Bono Center, announced their 2021 Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll honorees. Thirty-nine Jenner & Block lawyers were recognized in this year’s class for contributing 50 hours or more of pro bono service to those who cannot afford legal counsel. Thirty-one lawyers achieved the High Honor distinction for providing 100 hours or more.

Jenner & Block represents Altice USA Inc. in a case challenging state efforts to require cable operators to sell a partial month of service to customers who cancel their subscriptions. Such efforts violate the federal Cable Act’s preemption of state and local regulation of cable rates.

Since 2011,the DC courts have published an annual Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll that recognizes lawyers who contributed 50 hours or more of pro bono service to those who cannot afford legal counsel. The 2020 Honor Roll includes 55 DC office lawyers. On March 2, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in Brnovich  v. Democratic National Committee.  The case asks whether two Arizona voting restrictions violate Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.  Specifically, Arizona adopted provisions criminalizing non-fraudulent ballot collection and requiring all provisional ballots cast out of precinct to be discarded.  These policies have been shown to significantly disenfranchise minority voters, particularly Native American, Black, and Hispanic voters.
