Partner Andrew Vail Named a Litigation Trailblazer

This week, The National Law Journal named Litigation Partner Andrew W. Vail a 2021 Litigation Trailblazer based on his success on behalf of firm clients in their critical litigation matters in federal and state courts. The honor focuses on Andrew’s passion for listening to and learning from his clients to best understand their unique needs to successfully advocate for them inside and outside of the courtroom. This latest recognition follows Andrew receiving the prestigious 2021 Edward J. Lewis II Pro Bono Award, awarded by the Chicago Bar Association and Chicago Bar Foundation to lawyers who “display a deep commitment to the fundamental principles of equal protection and equal justice in the community through outstanding pro bono service.” It also follows his recent induction as a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, the preeminent organization of leading trial lawyers in North America.

The NLJ profile highlights Andrew’s work on behalf of pro bono client Patrick Purlsey, for whom Andrew and a Jenner & Block team obtained a new trial and an acquittal at that trial. Asked about the impact of the case, Andrew responds: “As an initial matter, Patrick has been freed from his wrongful incarceration of life in prison to return to society and make positive contributions, including to focus on at-risk youths and spend time with his family.”
