Law360 Names Luke Platzer, Ed Prokop and Amna Arshad 2018 Rising Stars

Law360 named Partners Luke C. Platzer and Edward L. Prokop and Special Counsel Amna Arshad 2018 Rising Stars.  They join a list of top litigators and dealmakers under the age of 40 who have demonstrated exceptional legal accomplishments, selected from a group of more than 1,200 lawyers nominated for the honor.

Mr. Platzer, also honored in 2015 as a Law360 Rising Star, is one of three lawyers recognized in Telecommunications.  His profile features his work on securing both state and federal regulatory approvals for the $65 billion merger between Charter Communications and Time Warner Cable, as well as Charter’s victory in Minnesota federal court in a dispute over state regulation of Voice over Internet Protocol services.  Law360 notes that his proudest moment as a lawyer came during his pro bono work on a First Circuit case that challenged the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act.  Mr. Platzer also provides insight into what’s on the horizon in telecommunications, stating in the profile that “we’re probably going to see a lot of questions arising about where the line is between online video and traditional cable service.”

Mr. Prokop is one of six lawyers named in the Mergers and Acquisitions category.  His profile describes his work representing General Dynamics through its $9.7 billion acquisition of information technology government contractor CSRA, as well as Snyder’s-Lance on both its multibillion-dollar purchase of Diamond Foods and later the snack food company’s almost $5 billion acquisition by Campbell’s Soup Company.  Mr. Prokop also discusses the future of M&A law, noting that while “limited in terms of how disruptive it is right now,” blockchain is a possible game-changer.

The profile for Ms. Arshad, one of four lawyers honored in the Transportation category, highlights her experience representing clients in high-profile regulatory and litigation matters.  “She has represented major US and foreign air carriers, airports, aerospace manufacturers, travel distribution clients, operators of unmanned aircraft systems or drones, and various other corporations in regulatory matters involving the US Department of Transportation, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board,” the publication notes.  The profile also recognizes her commitment to pro bono work and support of diversity and inclusion in the legal industry.  “I think it’s really important to be somewhere that shares my values,” says Ms. Arshad. “I’m lucky that my team at Jenner & Block is supportive.”
