For his legal accomplishments in Media & Entertainment, Partner Rémi Jaffré was recognized as a Rising Star by Law360. The award celebrates top practitioners under age 40.
Rémi’s profile highlights his work on high-profile fair use cases including a trademark dispute over the MTV reality show, “MTV Floribama Shore.”
"It really came down to our clients' First Amendment rights in terms of how they wanted to name the show," Jaffré said in the profile. "It felt good also to be fighting for free speech. I think that was a very gratifying win and a big one in my career."
Rémi’s profile also highlights his role helping overturn an unconstitutional ban on a drag show in southern Utah, which he says is one of the proudest moments of his career.
"This is again a First Amendment issue, but it also overlaps with a hot political topic these days," Jaffré said. "I'm a gay lawyer and I'm a huge fan of drag performers; I watch [Ru Paul's Drag Race] religiously and it really is terrible to see drag performers dragged through the mud the way that they are these days. Being able to fight back against that in our small way was really impactful, it made a big difference to our client and that definitely felt good to be a part of that."
As for what motivates him, Rémi said "It is always good to feel like you're fighting on the right side of a case, and I've been fortunate enough that that's almost always been the case since I've been at Jenner.”
