Partner Joanna Ludlam Discusses UK Government Regulatory Processes in The Law Society Gazette

As the UK government seeks to streamline regulatory processes to boost economic growth, there is a risk that the quality of administrative decision-making may be compromised.  Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ praise for delaying Basel III, and her rapid shift from neo-Keynesian policies to anti-regulation rhetoric, raises doubts about the effectiveness of her new approach.

In a recent The Law Society Gazette article, Partner Joanna Ludlam noted that while reducing regulatory red tape may seem like a step towards faster decision-making, it could undermine the quality of regulatory decisions. “A greater reliance on AI in decision-making, coupled with increased pressure to take decisions more quickly, is bound to increase the risk of a failure to comply with the requirements of public law and, in consequence, a greater risk that decisions will be challenged by way of judicial review,” said Joanna.

Joanna’s insights were also featured in Edward Fennell's Legal Diary.
