Jenner & Block ranked among the top three firms in Law360's annual scorecard of which firms argued most frequently before the US Supreme Court during the 2025–26 term. Partner Matthew Hellman, co-chair of Jenner & Block's Appellate and Supreme Court Practice, spoke with Law360 for the feature, which highlights a long-running trend toward a smaller, more concentrated group of advocates handling an outsized share of the Court's docket. The firm was one of only four nationwide to argue three or more cases this term.
Matthew spoke to why experience before the Court matters more than ever as the justices take on fewer cases each term, and how that dynamic shapes which firms and lawyers petitioners turn to.
The article also spotlighted the work of Partner Adam Unikowsky, who argued three Supreme Court cases this term, including a high-profile win establishing that geofence warrants are searches under the Fourth Amendment. Matthew described the firm's approach as a team effort. In the last four terms, six different Jenner lawyers at the firm have argued before the Supreme Court.
"This is not a practice where only one or two people do the arguments for the group," Matt said in the article. "We pride ourselves on our team approach to really pushing hard on our conceptions of what is the winning argument and looking for ways to strengthen those arguments."
