Joanna Wright, an elite, nationally recognized trial lawyer, will join Jenner & Block as a Partner in its New York office on May 8. Joanna adds more than a decade of experience in high-stakes litigation and crisis management to the firm’s leading litigation practice.
“Joanna has built her reputation handling litigation matters that pose an existential threat to companies and guiding clients through major crises as a trusted advisor,” said Co-Managing Partners Katya Jestin and Randy Mehrberg. “Her ability to craft creative solutions in critical matters will be an asset to clients across all industries. We are thrilled to welcome Joanna to our New York office and to our international litigation practice.”
A dynamic trial lawyer, Joanna represents plaintiffs and defendants in all stages of litigation. She has first chaired arbitrations and trials in federal and state courts and secured some of the most notable victories of recent years. Her generalist practice is anchored in complex civil litigation and involves novel constitutional claims, securities fraud, corporate governance and shareholder disputes, antitrust, white-collar defense, product liability, bellwether trials, copyright, and class actions.
“Joanna has proven herself one of the elite litigators and crisis managers of her generation,” said Lee Wolosky, a Co-Chair of Jenner’s Litigation Department. “Her ability to advocate for clients in the courtroom while partnering with them in the boardroom sets her apart from her peers.”
Nationally recognized for her ability to deliver results in the toughest disputes, Joanna was named “Young Lawyer of the Year” by The American Lawyer in 2021.
“Joanna’s abilities and breadth of experience as a litigator are assets for our office and a strong complement to our deep bench of industry leaders across all of our offices,” said Tony Barkow, Managing Partner of Jenner’s New York office. “I am delighted that she is joining us in New York.”
Joanna has also secured significant victories for her pro bono clients. Just 72 hours after the Dobbs decision, she obtained injunctive relief against multiple abortion bans in Louisiana—the first in the country. At Jenner, she will continue her trailblazing work on the matter, June Medical Services v. Landry, in partnership with the Center for Reproductive Rights.
“I could not think of a better place to grow my practice. Jenner's breadth of subject matter expertise, including in government, regulatory, and appellate spheres, creates a suite of services I can offer my clients facing interdisciplinary legal issues and crises,” said Joanna.
“Jenner’s unrivaled commitment to both its clients and the community also aligns perfectly with my values and my practice.”
Joanna obtained her JD from Columbia Law School and BA from Boston College. She holds an MA from Fordham University.
