Tanner Lockhead assists clients in all stages of litigation involving complex issues of commercial, administrative, and constitutional law.

Before joining the firm, Tanner was an attorney at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund where he litigated school desegregation and voting rights cases, including Allen v. Milligan at the Supreme Court. Tanner clerked for Judge Jane R. Roth on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and later served as Senior Advisor to the United States Special Counsel. He has also authored law review articles in the California Law Review and the NC Central Law Review on voting rights and democracy.

Tanner received his JD from Columbia Law School where he was a Hamilton Fellow, Kent Scholar and Patiño Fellow, and was awarded the Murphy Prize for his work in clinic on access to justice in state courts.  Before law school, Tanner graduated from Duke University as a Benjamin N. Duke Scholar and served as an AmeriCorps Fellow in his hometown of Durham, North Carolina.
