Rachael Hanna is a member of Jenner & Block’s Investigations, Compliance, and Defense and National Security and Crisis practices. She provides legal counsel to clients navigating sensitive national security issues.
Rachael represents clients in complex litigation and investigations, with experience handling matters arising under sanctions, export control, and national security regulations, the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (FSIA), and the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). Drawing on her time at the Department of Defense, where she coordinated extensively with the Department of Justice, Rachael helps clients navigate investigations involving national security concerns and emerging regulatory frameworks governing critical technologies, including artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
Rachael first joined the firm after clerking on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit for Judge Daniel Collins. She earned her JD, with honors, from Harvard Law School, where she served as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard National Security Journal and wrote regularly for Lawfare on terrorism, surveillance, and export control issues.
