Michael Linden represents clients in complex markets-related disputes. He regularly defends clients facing putative class actions under the Commodity Exchange Act and the Securities Exchange Act. Michael also represents both corporate and individual clients facing investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. He has particular experience litigating market manipulation claims. In addition to his markets and trading practice, Michael represents corporations facing shareholder demands and derivative litigation under both Delaware and New York law.
Michael also maintains a robust pro bono practice focused on prisoners’ rights. He has litigated Eighth Amendment cases involving inadequate medical care, failure by prison officials to protect persons in their custody, and deprivation of religious freedom. As a third-year student, Michael argued in front of the Connecticut Supreme Court on behalf of a client in mortgage foreclosure, where he secured a unanimous reversal.
Before joining Jenner & Block, Michael was a Public Interest Law Initiative Graduate Fellow at the Uptown People’s Law Center, litigating on behalf of incarcerated people and other marginalized populations in Illinois. He now serves as the Co-Chair of the John Howard Association Young Professionals Board, which serves as an independent monitor of Illinois prisons and advocates for humane treatment of incarcerated people.
