Alec received his JD from the UCLA School of Law, where he served as the co-president of the Entertainment Law Association and as an articles editor for the UCLA Entertainment Law Review (ELR). While in law school, he also worked as an advanced student clinician in the UCLA Documentary Film Legal Clinic and externed for the Honorable John A. Kronstadt of the US District Court for the Central District of California.
