An Illinois federal jury awarded clients Kraft Heinz Co., Kellogg Co., General Mills Inc., and Nestle USA Inc. $17.7 million for the damages they suffered from the overcharges they paid due to a conspiracy to inflate the prices of eggs by the nation’s largest egg producers and two industry groups. The plaintiffs are entitled to have the $17.7 million trebled.
After a five-week trial, a federal jury in Illinois found that two of the largest egg producers in the nation, Cal-Maine Food and Rose Acre Farms, and two egg trade groups, United Egg Producers and United States Egg Marketers, are liable for conspiring to inflate the prices of eggs from the late 1990s through at least 2008.
Florida Supreme Court to Hear Oral Arguments in 15-Week Abortion Ban Challenge
On Friday, September 8, the Florida Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida, et al. v. State of Florida, et al., a case challenging Florida’s House Bill 5 (HB 5) which bans abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy. The 15-week ban, which has been in effect since last July, has harmed patients across the state. The Non-Compete Competition: Washington State’s New Broad Ban on Non-Competes
Last month, Washington state passed Engrossed Substitute House Bill 1155 (SB 1155), legislation that bans virtually all non-compete agreements and significantly narrows the scope of permissible non-solicitation agreements in the state.
