Partners Brandon Fox and Reid Schar Named Top White Collar Lawyers

Jenner & Block Partners Brandon Fox and Reid Schar were named 2023 Top White Collar Lawyers by the Daily Journal. The annual list honors “top performing attorneys specializing in white-collar defense.”

Brandon’s profile highlights his experience as leading the criminal division of the US Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles and successful representation of Kraft, Kellogg, General Mills, and Nestle USA in a long-running antitrust litigation against two of the nation’s largest egg producers and trade associations.

Brandon described difficulties of the trial, and notes that the team succeed by developing “a strategy that included proving our case through the defendants’ executives. It was a challenging case, and we were extremely happy to have been successful.”

Reid’s profile highlights his work leading the independent investigation into the Chicago Blackhawks sexual assault scandal and his work guiding Ceres Global Ag Corp to a settlement with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Of the Ceres matter, Reid said, “We had to learn the nuances of the oat trading market while trying to explain to the regulator that the conduct was historical, not as harmful as first suspected, and that there was a difference of opinion as to the intent of what was occurring.”

As for trends in the field, “I expect we’re going to see increased and aggressive regulator review of the public statements that companies make during a crisis for accuracy, which is particularly fraught for publicly traded companies. I also think we’ll see a focus on antitrust enforcement on both the DOJ criminal and civil sides. Finally, as we head into an election year, I anticipate a heavy emphasis on election interference,” Reid said.
