Partner Michael McNamara was recognized as a 2025 Leading Commercial Litigator by the Daily Journal for the second year in a row. The annual award honors the “top performing bet-the-company litigators across the country.”
Mike’s profile describes him as a “seasoned attorney with 42 years of experience, specializing in complex litigation and professional liability.”
One of his recent notable cases involved a Ponzi scheme that defrauded investors out of $1.3 billion. Mike brought and won an anti-SLAPP motion, leading the trial court to strike the majority of the trustee’s claims.
"The trustee appealed the order striking those claims, while the client cross-appealed a portion of the order, allowing one small group of claims to proceed. After extensive briefing in the Court of Appeal, on the eve of appellate arguments, the parties entered into a settlement with the trustee. This matter is an example of a growing trend of claims by trustees or receivers against law firms in Ponzi scheme cases,” Mike said.
In another high-profile dispute, Mike went on to win once again an anti-SLAPP motion, resulting in the dismissal of the civil extortion and emotional distress claims.
