United Way of Metro Chicago awarded Jenner & Block its Corporate Leadership Award at the Stronger Neighborhoods Awards Luncheon on May 28. The honor recognizes organizations that demonstrate a longstanding commitment to the United Way and the communities it serves, and partners who have exemplified what it means to “Live United.”
“Our outstanding partners consistently set the standard by investing in our neighborhoods and helping to create communities where everyone has the resources they need to thrive,” said United Way of Metro Chicago President and CEO Sean Garrett. “Dedicated civic leaders like Jenner & Block and our many other generous partners are deeply committed to supporting United Way as we drive transformative change and work alongside our partners to expand opportunities for people across the Chicago region.”
Partner Andrew Vail, who has served as General Counsel for the United Way Metropolitan Chicago since 2020, accepted the award on behalf of the firm.
"In 1914, Wrigley Field was built, Carl Sandburg wrote of Chicago’s 'Big Shoulders,' and our law firm was formed," Andrew said. "Ever since, Jenner & Block lawyers have served Chicago, and the nation, and passed down that commitment to community and clients – you saw in the pictures Bert Jenner, Tom Sullivan, Joan Hall and so many others – to the next generation of Jenner lawyers. With partnerships like the UWMC and standing together with the Big Shoulders of so many in this room, I commit to you that Jenner & Block will continue to serve our communities and clients for at least the next 100 years."
United Way brings together businesses, government, nonprofits, and agency and community leaders to deliver funding, resources, and expertise to nonprofit organizations across greater Chicago. Co-Managing Partner Randy Mehrberg serves on the Board of Directors for the organization.
