Co-Managing Partner Katya Jestin Highlights Jenner’s Monitorship Practice in Corporate Crime Reporter

In an interview with Corporate Crime Reporter, Katya Jestin discusses the firm’s leading monitorship practice. “We literally wrote the book” on monitorships, Katya says, referring to Global Investigations Review’s (GIR) The Guide to Monitorships, which the firm contributed to and edited. Katya offers her insight not only as a Co-Chair of Jenner’s Investigations, Compliance, and Defense Practice but also as the newly appointed monitor of Glencore. Of her recent appointment, she says, “I had never been appointed a monitor before, but we have a robust monitorship practice at Jenner. In fact, I think we were the first firm to create a monitorship practice. We are very proud of it.”

Katya discusses the firm’s approach to monitorships, saying, “We have internal policies and procedures that govern the way we approach monitorships. We take the independence of the monitor seriously. We are assiduous about working within the four corners of the resolution document.”

Katya says, “For an effective monitorship, you try and build on the work that’s been done by the company. You try to devise solutions that make sense within the entity.” The ultimate goal of any monitorship, she observes, is to help the monitored entity achieve a “sustainable compliance culture.”
