(CHICAGO, IL – June 14, 2023) Litigation powerhouse Jenner & Block expanded its litigation and class action ranks with the addition of Rachael Trummel in its Chicago office. Rachael is an award-winning lawyer with more than two decades of complex litigation experience and a deep commitment to pro bono work and the Chicago legal community.
“Clients turn to Jenner & Block because we have a track record of success in significant and complex litigation and class action matters,” said Co-Managing Partners Katya Jestin and Randy Mehrberg. “Rachael’s skills and experience complement our existing capabilities and expand our capacity to meet our clients’ growing needs in these practice areas.”
Rachael’s practice incorporates complex business litigation, pre-litigation risk mitigation, and class action defense with matters here in Chicago, across the country, and abroad. Her work spans industries and sectors, from financial services to medical devices, energy, automotive, food and beverage, and other consumer products. Her practice ranges from proudly representing Chicago-based companies to multinational corporations in putative class actions and other high-stakes commercial disputes wherever they may arise.
“Rachael is a talented courtroom lawyer,” said Partner Terri Mascherin, a Co-Chair of the firm’s Litigation Department. “But more than that, clients tell us that she is a trusted adviser who provides strategic counsel and identifies creative solutions to difficult legal challenges.”
“Rachael has represented Northern Trust for over 10 years in some of our most important matters,” said Susan Levy, Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Northern Trust in Chicago. “Rachael is an outstanding lawyer, strategic counselor, and a “go to” litigator for our legal team. She brings a tremendous skillset to Jenner’s complex litigation and class action practices, and we look forward to continuing our close relationship.”
Jenner & Block’s class action practice is thriving, with recent high-profile representations and victories for multinational food manufacturers and suppliers, hotel chains, and financial institutions, amongst others. Rachael strengthens that practice with her wealth of experience defending business entities across various sectors in high-stakes class action litigation. Beyond the class action space, Rachael also has extensive experience representing leading corporations and other business entities in a broad range of high-stakes commercial disputes.
“Jenner & Block’s complex litigation and class action practices are second to none, and I am very happy to be here,” Rachael said. “The clients and legal work are top-notch; the people are brilliant, warm, and kind; and the firm’s genuine commitment to pro bono legal work, community service, and diversity aligns with my own.”
Rachael serves on the Board of Directors of the Greater Chicago Legal Clinic and the Chicago Committee on Minorities in Large Law Firms. Her pro bono practice includes representing criminal defendants in appellate and habeas proceedings, and asylum applicants in immigration cases.
Jenner & Block has added several notable lateral partners in recent months, including former Assistant US Attorney and Appellate Chief Annie Kastanek, former Solicitor General of Virginia Michelle Kallen, and Litigators Alex Romain and Joanna Wright.
