On October 3, Senior Associate Leonard Powell will join the 22nd Annual California Indian Law Conference for a panel discussion on recent litigation developments impacting tribes. Mr. Powell will discuss the Brackeen v. Haaland case about the constitutionality of the Indian Child Welfare Act and the Maverick v. US case about the constitutionality of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

Mr. Powell represents clients before appellate and trial courts throughout the US in cases raising high-stakes issues of constitutional and statutory interpretation, administrative law, criminal procedure, and federal Indian law, among others. He regularly briefs matters before the United States Supreme Court, where he has won three cases on the merits and successfully opposed dozens of petitions for certiorari. Mr. Powell also advises clients facing critical strategic decisions at the trial-court level and litigates case-dispositive motions.
