A Jenner & Block team secured summary judgment on behalf of a pro bono client who was sued under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 after reporting a sexual assault and cooperating with law enforcement, bringing to a close nearly seven years of retaliatory litigation.

Los Angeles Partners Kate Spelman and Alex Smith and Associate Madeline Skitzki were highlighted in the Daily Journal as a Top Verdict of the Week for their work in securing a summary judgment in favor of client Hain Celestial Group, Inc.

For three weeks in December, a team of 26 Jenner & Block lawyers researched the availability of and access to mental health services for children in grades K-12 in 45 different states. Since our last update, a number of states across the United States have implemented new numerous orders restricting the operations of “nonessential” businesses in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19 (the Essential Business Orders).  These include Alaska, Arizona, Kansas, Montana, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Utah and Virginia.  Please check our trackers for more information.

Over the course of the last week, states and municipalities across the United States have implemented numerous orders restricting the operations of “nonessential” businesses in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19 (the Essential Business Orders).  Given the disparate approaches across various jurisdictions, businesses are being forced to navigate a patchwork of directives impacting whether they are considered “essential”—and therefore may continue in-person operations—or not.
