Jenner & Block Announces 2026 Partner and Special Counsel Promotions
Jenner & Block announced the elevation of 10 lawyers to the partnership and advancement of five lawyers to special counsel, effective January 1, 2026.
Thanks to the dedication of Jenner & Block Partners Wade Thomson, Megan Poetzel, and Hope Tone-O’Keefe, Associate Michael Pearson, and former associates Meg Hlousek and Nathaniel Schetter, alongside their partnership with the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC), Jaime Jose Hernandez Froilan, his wife Genesis, and their daughter Leia were granted asylum in the United States in 2025.
Partnership with NIJC Yields Grant of Asylum to Pro Bono Client Who Fled Iran
On August 3, the Chicago Immigration Court granted asylum to a pro bono client who had been persecuted in his home country of Iran due to his political activity protesting the current ruling regime and for his conversion to Christianity.

Jenner & Block Team to Receive Northern District of Illinois Pro Bono Award
The US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (NDIL) and the Chicago Chapter of the Federal Bar Association will honor a Jenner & Block team with the 2025 Pro Bono and Public Interest Award for Excellence on May 1 during a ceremony. The award recognizes lawyers who have made significant contributions to NDIL and the community through pro bono representation and advocacy.

Jenner & Block Team Analyze Critical ERISA Arbitration Decision
Joseph Torres, chair of Jenner & Block's ERISA Litigation Practice, along with Partner Hope H. Tone-O'Keefe and Associate Sriya Chadalavada, published an analysis of the Ninth Circuit's recent decision in Platt v. Sodexo, S.A. in the Spring 2026 edition of the Employee Relations Law Journal.
In an article for Employee Relations Law Journal, Partner Joseph Torres, and Associates Hope Tone-O’Keefe and Jeff Salvadore examine challenges to standing as a defense in excessive fee cases under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), following the Supreme Court’s ruling in Thole v. US Bank N.A. The authors review recent developments in this area and provide tips for plan sponsors who may encounter such claims.
