Jenner & Block Authors Amicus Brief on Cash Bail on Behalf of American Bar Association
On April 5, Jenner & Block filed an amicus brief on behalf of the American Bar Association (ABA) in Shannon Daves, et al. v. Dallas County, Texas, et al. in support of Plaintiffs’ challenge to Dallas County’s money bail system, wherein judges treated pre-set money bail amounts as binding and set bail in closed-door proceedings that lasted under 30 seconds.
Firm Team Authors Amicus Brief on Behalf of National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers
In Greer v. United States of America, the Eleventh Circuit, applying plain error review, reaffirmed Petitioner’s conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The Eleventh Circuit’s decision, however, followed an intervening legal change that required that the prosecution prove Petitioner’s knowledge of his felony status. And although the prosecution had not introduced evidence of this element at Petitioner’s trial, the Eleventh Circuit nonetheless reaffirmed Petitioner’s conviction

Managing IP Honors Jenner & Block with Award for Hetronic Victory
Managing IP honored a Jenner & Block team led by Partners Debbie L. Berman and Wade A. Thomson for their appellate victory on behalf of client Hetronic International in a trademark and trade secrets dispute. The victory won in the “Impact Case of the Year” category at an event on April 7 in New York. The Managing IP Awards celebrate the firms, individuals, and companies behind the most innovative and challenging intellectual property work, as well as those driving the international IP market.

In a recent article for the American Bar Association’s Securities Ligation Journal, Partners Tony Barkow, Gabi Gillett, and Charles Riely, along with Associates Grace Signorelli-Cassady and Kelsey Stimple, discuss the decision made in SEC v. Fierro which may put private funds, insurers, mutual funds, and others that buy and sell securities at risk.
A broad array of financial market participants—mutual funds, private funds, insurers, pension funds, family offices, individuals, and more—may be at risk after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) secured summary judgment in a case alleging an individual and an affiliated entity acted as unregistered securities dealers when they bought and sold securities for their own account.[1]
