Richard Steinken is a litigator. Corporations, individuals, trade associations, and governmental entities seek his counsel on a wide variety of matters ranging from consumer fraud and deception, products liability and class actions to construction, ERISA and fiduciary responsibility and environmental issues. Richard handles civil and criminal matters, grand jury investigations, appellate court proceedings, and arbitrations across the country. He has served as lead counsel for the City of Chicago in several multi-million dollar lawsuits. Richard also counsels clients on advertising and marketing issues and regarding possible internal improprieties and employee wrongdoing.
Richard is AV Peer Review Rated, Martindale-Hubbell’s highest peer recognition for ethical standards and ability, and has been elected by his peers as an Illinois Super Lawyer in business litigation.
A member of the firm's Pro Bono Committee, Richard has an active pro bono practice and has served as lead counsel in many bench and jury trials in state and federal courts, including several capital murder cases. In 2001, Jenner & Block recognized his work with the first Albert E. Jenner Pro Bono Award. In 2007, Richard was accorded special recognition by the group Death Penalty Focus in California for his efforts challenging that state's lethal injection protocol.
