Jenner & Block

Called To Serve

At Jenner & Block, our attorneys are involved in a wide range of public service activities.  Some of our attorneys volunteer their time with community organizations; others focus on service to the bar; and many spend time doing both.  We are proud of the public service activities our attorneys choose, and we fully support this aspect of their professional development.

Service to the Bar
Jenner & Block attorneys are extremely active in the organized bar.  Among other things, by participating in the organized bar, our attorneys contribute to the evolution of the profession.  Bar participation also provides opportunities to make new connections and develop leadership skills and abilities.  Our partners often recommend associates and other partners for committees and to serve as speakers for various programs.

Our attorneys are leaders in numerous bars – national and local.  For example, partner Ronald L. Marmer is Chair of the American Bar Association Section of Litigation.  Partner Terri Mascherin is the immediate Past President and a Board Member of the Chicago Bar Association.  Partner Susan Kohlmann has held numerous positions at the New York City Bar including serving as Chair of the Diversity Committee and the Women in the Profession Committee.  Partner Lorelie S. Masters serves on the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation’s Council and the Board of Governors for the District of Columbia Bar.

Our attorneys find their experiences both personally and professionally rewarding.  Through their service, some discover an interest in a different area of law while others see it as an opportunity to advance an issue about which they are passionate. The Firm offers support in a variety of ways including sponsoring events.

Community Service
From serving on the board of national and local organizations to volunteering with the Boys & Girls Clubs, our attorneys take part in a broad range of community service activities.  Many of their choices reflect personal interests and passions outside of the legal arena.  It is a way for them to get involved in their communities and an opportunity to develop new contacts they otherwise would not have made.

For example, Partner Richard J. Gray is a member of the National Board of Trustees for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  Associate Reena R. Bajowala is a member of the Junior Leadership Council of the National Immigrant Justice Center.  Partner E. Lynn Grayson is past Chairperson of the Air and Waste Management Association.  Partner Jerome L. Epstein is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Thurgood Marshall Academy.  Los Angeles office Managing Partner Rick Richmond is the former Chairman of the Los Angeles Eagle Scout Association.

Jenner & Block attorneys help Bell Elementary School students learn about the legal system by staging a mock trial.
