Sofia Biller has experience in complex commercial litigation, securities litigation, bankruptcy litigation, white collar criminal matters, and internal investigations. Her litigation practice focuses on claims for and against financial advisors, financial institutions, auditing firms, issuers, and originators relating to recapitalizations and LBOs, securities, derivatives, and other financial transactions.
Ms. Biller has worked on a wide variety of internal investigations in the United States, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East focusing on the FCPA, Sarbanes-Oxley and U.S. securities laws, the Bank Secrecy Act and money laundering, OFAC regulations, and other U.S. export/import controls. In 2009 and 2010, she represented the Examiner in the Lehman Brothers Bankruptcy, the largest in history. Ms. Biller investigated Lehman’s use of so-called “Repo 105” transactions as well as other off-balance sheet structures. Her role in the Lehman Brothers investigation was discussed in The American Lawyer (Sept. 2010) article titled “History Lessons.”
In addition to her private practice, Ms. Biller is active in several professional and community organizations, and has been lead associate on multiple pro bono Section 1983 lawsuits for deprivation of Constitutional rights. Ms. Biller also serves on the Firm's Associate Committee. Prior to joining Jenner & Block, Ms. Biller researched and taught in the areas of Ancient Near Eastern and Arabo-Islamic Studies and Comparative Literature.
