Brent Caslin has more than 25 years of broad litigation and arbitration experience, having tried civil and criminal cases, represented clients in domestic and international arbitration tribunals, and argued before state and federal courts of appeal. He co-founded Jenner & Block’s Los Angeles office in 2009, opening an office that has consistently been named among the “Most Admired Law Firms to Work For” by the Los Angeles Business Journal and starting a commercial litigation practice in California that is now ranked Band 1 in California by Chambers USA.
Brent’s management of complex disputes has been commended by the National Law Journal, Los Angeles Daily Journal, and the Legal 500. In 2017, he was awarded a California Lawyer Attorney of the Year (CLAY) Award by the Daily Journal for his work on a substantial cross-border dispute.
Although he enjoys a broad-based practice, Brent is particularly adept with disputes involving commercial agreements, corporate transactions, investment funds, licensing disputes, and trade secrets. He has defended dozens of alleged corporate fraud cases and twice won affirmative fraud claims in arbitration proceedings.
Brent’s deep understanding of trade secret law positions him to handle cases involving state and federal trade secret and computer fraud statutes. He regularly provides counseling on trade secret matters and has led teams through all types of trade secret and computer fraud disputes in courts across the US. Brent has repeatedly been proclaimed a top trade secrets lawyer by the Los Angeles Daily Journal and Legal 500. He led the investigation and filing of the trade secret lawsuit by Epic Systems against Tata Consultancy, in the US District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, that eventually resulted in a $940 million jury verdict against TCS, and was one of the leaders of the Jenner team that secured a $130 million settlement during trial of a trade secret case in Seattle, Washington. He has defended trade secret cases in computer software, telecommunications, finance, real estate, insurance, defense, manufacturing, and other industries.
Having lived and worked in the United States, Asia, and Europe, Brent is particularly skilled at managing and resolving complex cross-border disputes. He has represented clients from around the world, with particular experience working with companies from Japan.
As a US Army veteran, Brent maintains an active pro bono practice representing disabled veterans and veteran groups. He serves on the board of the EOD Warrior Foundation, an active charitable organization that provides support to active-duty, Reserve and National Guard, retired, and veteran EOD technicians and their families.
