Firm Honored at Lambda Legal’s Bon Foster Award Dinner

Firm Sponsors Bon Foster Gay Rights Celebration

Jenner & Block continued its support of Lambda Legal and gay civil rights as a Gold Sponsor of the Bon Foster Civil Rights Celebration, held April 28 at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art.  Partner Gail H. Morse was Co-Chair of the event, and lauded Lambda Legal’s victories on behalf of gay rights during the opening remarks for the evening’s festivities.

“It is truly a privilege to stand here and represent Jenner & Block, the law firm that argued Lawrence v. Texas with Lambda Legal,” said Ms. Morse, referring to the landmark gay civil rights case in 2003 which overturned the Texas sodomy law.  “Tonight is a great opportunity to recognize what Lambda does, and the civil rights that their work protects.”

The event served as Chicago’s introduction to the new Legal Director of Lambda Legal, Jon Davidson.  Previously, Mr. Davidson was Senior Counsel in the organization’s Western Regional Office.

Ms. Morse and Mr. Davidson, along with Jenner & Block alumna and event Co-Chair J. Cunyon Gordon also honored the legacy of the namesake of the event, Bon Foster, who was a Jenner & Block Associate who died of AIDS-related causes in September 1991.

"Jenner & Block and Lambda Legal have done exciting work that helps further equal rights," said reception attendee Lee M. Neubecker, President of Forensicon, a computer forensics and electronic discovery company based in Chicago.  "The work on cases like Lawrence v. Texas and the other things that Lambda Legal accomplishes help strike out laws that deny basic human rights -- this benefits citizens who are gay or straight, as well as those who love anybody who is gay or straight."
