For its unswerving advocacy of “equal rights for everyone,” Jenner & Block was honored with the Human First Award on March 20th by the Horizons Community Services/Center on Halsted. In bestowing the award, the organization praised the Firm’s longstanding commitment to LGBT civil rights as well as its role in the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision last year in Lawrence v. Texas.
Accepting the award on behalf of the Firm was Partner William M. Hohengarten, who was one of the leaders of the Firm’s team in the Lawrence v. Texas case. The Justices in that decision struck down a Texas anti-sodomy law as unconstitutional, and in so ruling, created what many are hailing as a watershed moment for LGBT civil rights.
Also accepting an award was Lambda Legal Defense & Education Fund, co-counsel with Jenner & Block in the Lawrence case.
