Jenner & Block Partner Carla J. Rozycki recently received the Illinois Department on Aging’s Governor’s Award for Unique Achievement in recognition of her outstanding volunteer leadership within the Suburban Area Agency on Aging, an agency that plans, coordinates, and funds programs and services for older persons age 60 and over in suburban Cook County.

Ms. Rozycki has served the Area Agency “with enthusiasm, intelligence and commitment,” said Nikki Smith, Manager of the Illinois Department on Aging’s Division of Community Relations & Outreach, during her presentation of the award to Ms. Rozycki at an Area Agency board meeting on October 27.

Ms. Rozycki has served two terms as the Area Agency’s President, and has been a member of its Board of Directors since 2000.  Among other things, she implemented the Area Agency’s first Strategic Plan and spearheaded its first fundraiser to improve the support services provided to the elderly.  The fundraiser raised over $40,000 for Respite Services for family members caring for an older parent, relative or spouse.

“Her leadership, concern for our clientele, and intellect have propelled the Area Agency into new heights of effectiveness in serving older persons in suburban Cook County,” said Jonathan Lavin, CEO of the Agency, in a press release.

The award also recognized Jenner & Block for its “longstanding commitment to serve its community and leadership in pro bono service.”  The Firm is helping the Area Agency with its rebranding and upcoming name change to AgeOptions, and regularly conducts training on human resource law for the Area Agency’s senior service providers.  The Firm also assisted the Area Agency with its bylaws and negotiations for new office space.

“What a wonderful collaboration this has been – a prestigious legal name wedded to an illustrious area agency,” concluded Ms. Smith.

In 1974, the Suburban Area Agency on Aging was designated by the Illinois Department on Aging to plan, advocate, coordinate and fund services for older persons in suburban Cook County, Illinois. The Area Agency, a not-for-profit corporation, distributes funds to more than 35 local community agencies to provide services such as senior nutrition programs, transportation and housekeeping assistance to older persons in suburban Cook County.
