Jenner & Block Partner Richard J. Gray asked the Reserves Committee of the ABA Section of Litigation earlier this year to provide additional financial support to the ABA's Legal Opportunity Scholarship Foundation, which has awarded $15,000 in law school tuition scholarships to 100 diverse students since 2000. At Mr. Gray's suggestion, the Reserves Committee and Section Council approved a $100,000 donation toward continued scholarship grants and issued its "Lead Gift Challenge" during the ABA's Annual Meeting August 4-9 in Chicago.
Under the challenge, the Section of Litigation has offered to increase its gift to as much as $250,000 to match the largest gift, exceeding $100,000, made by any other section. The challenge thus far has resulted in total gifts of $280,000.
"The LOSF is clearly a worthy cause that is already showing many tangible results," observes Brad Brian, Chair of the Section of Litigation.
Mr. Gray, a member of the ABA President's Council on Diversity in the Profession and one of the many Section of Litigation leaders supporting the Lead Gift Challenge concludes: "We are very proud of the Section of Litigation's leadership role and anticipate that other ABA Sections will further rise to the challenge in supporting this important work."
At Mr. Gray's suggestion, Jenner & Block last year separately initiated the "Jenner & Block Scholarship," to be awarded to a selected Legal Opportunity scholar.
