Below are links to Jenner & Block's brief as well as many of the other documents, including amicus briefs, filed with the Court in Vieth v. Jubelirer, No. 02-1580, the U.S. Supreme Court's first partisan-gerrymandering case since the 1986 decision in Davis v. Bandemer.
Jenner & Block argued the case before the Court on December 10, 2003. The Justices released their decision on April 28, 2004.
In the 17 years since the Bandemer decision, no congressional or state-legislative districting plan has been invalidated as a partisan gerrymander. In Vieth v. Jubelirer, the U.S. Supreme Court reviewed a partisan-gerrymandering challenge to a recent Pennsylvania congressional redistricting plan.
The Jenner & Block legal team on this matter included Partners Paul M. Smith, Sam Hirsch, Thomas J. Perrelli, Bruce V. Spiva, and Associates Dan Mach and Lee S. Taylor.
In December 2005, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear challenges to the Texas congressional redistricting plan passed in 2003. For documents before the Court in that case, please click here or visit http://www.jenner.com/TXredistricting.
