Jenner & Block Partner Katherine M. Rahill has been selected as a recipient of the Chicago Foundation for Women’s 2012 Impact Award. Ms. Rahill is being recognized for her leadership of Jenner & Block’s participation in the Circuit Court of Cook County Domestic Violence Division’s Order of Protection Pro Bono Representation Program. Through the program, which began in 2011, volunteer attorneys aid clients in obtaining both emergency and plenary orders of protection. Jenner & Block is one of several firms in the city who are partnering with the Court to help victims of domestic violence.
Ms. Rahill has chaired the Firm’s participation in this pilot project. Through her recruiting efforts, 29 Firm associates and 12 partners volunteered in the program last year, representing 22 clients and contributing approximately 1,000 pro bono attorney hours. In addition to encouraging attorney participation, Ms. Rahill also took on the responsibility of coordinating the administration of the program for the Firm, including managing the attorneys’ schedules and supervising associates on site. Her selection for the Impact Award represents the recognition of not only her work, but the work of each Firm attorney participating in this project, which already has made significant contributions to the lives of these clients and their families.
Ms. Rahill is a member of the Firm’s Environmental and Workplace Health & Safety Law and Climate and Clean Technology Law Practices. She has a comprehensive environmental law practice that includes litigation, transactions and regulatory compliance matters. Other pro bono work she is involved in includes working with other Jenner & Block attorneys on behalf of persons with disabilities in northwest Indiana, to improve public transportation.
The Chicago Foundation for Women is an important organization in the Chicago area, dedicated to raising money to fund and support organizations that help women and girls. The Impact Awards event at which Ms. Rahill will be recognized is one of two annual signature events hosted by the Foundation and is attended by approximately 300 of Chicago’s most notable leaders. The reception and ceremony takes place on Thursday, March 15 at 6 p.m. at the Spertus Institute, 610 S. Michigan, Chicago.
