In November 2003, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear two appeals filed on behalf of some of the detainees held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba who are being held as part of the United States’ war on terrorism. Below are links to many of the documents currently before the Court in this case, including amicus briefs.
The consolidated cases, Rasul v. Bush, No. 03-334, and Al Odah v. United States, No. 03-343, were argued before the Justices on April 20. For audio of the argument, please click here. Audio courtesy of the The OYEZ Project (Real Audio Player Required). A transcript of the argument is available below.
The U.S. Supreme Court on January 9 agreed to hear Hamdi v. Rumsfeld, No. 03-6696, a third case on the Court’s docket that will explore the extent of the government’s powers in its war on terrorism. Briefs in this case are available at http://www.jenner.com/hamdi.
Please note: many of the initial amicus briefs supporting the Petition for Certiorari were for all three cases. However, the briefs due to the Court on January 14 were only in the Guantanamo Bay cases, Rasul v. Bush and Al Odah v. United States.
In a related matter, on February 10, Jenner & Block created a brief resource center for the case Rumsfeld v. Padilla. It is available at: http://www.jenner.com/padilla.
