Established in September 1982, the D.C. office builds on the Firm’s traditional core strength in commercial litigation, and is the center for practices distinct to the nation’s capital, such as Communications and SEC work, Government Contracts, Appellate and Supreme Court advocacy and Election Law and Redistricting.

The office exemplifies one of the unique features of the Washington business world – the blend of the private and public sectors.  Our attorneys include former senior level attorneys at the SEC, Department of Justice and FCC, as well as former federal prosecutors and federal defenders.  Office alumni include the current Solicitor General of the United States and current Associate U.S. Attorney General.  Other former D.C. partners and associates also are engaged in high-profile positions in public service.

The D.C. office is the home of Jenner & Block’s seasoned Government Contracts practice, led by two of the foremost practitioners in the industry and recognized by Chambers USA as one of the leading practices of its kind nationwide.  We are also the center of the Firm’s highly regarded Appellate and Supreme Court practice, named toThe National Law Journal’s “Appellate Hot List” for three years in a row and led by a partner who was, in 2010, selected by The NLJ as “one of the decade’s most influential lawyers.”  Every Washington attorney in the Appellate group has served either as a Supreme Court clerk or federal appellate court clerk.  They have argued numerous cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, and maintain an extensive amicus practice, playing key roles in some of the most high-profile and precedent-setting decisions in recent history.

The Firm’s highly acclaimed Content, Media & Entertainment practice has its origins in the Washington office.  Ranked as a “Band One” practice by Chambers USA and a “Tier One” practice by Legal 500, its achievements have been widely recognized, including being named the “Copyright Firm of the Year” in 2010 and 2011 by Managing Intellectual Property magazine.

The D.C. office also contributes substantially to the Firm’s noted pro bono efforts, with a unique focus on matters involving human trafficking and asylum.
